How To Cope With Loneliness; Discovering A Lifetime Set Free in Just Ten Days!
“Loneliness is the most terrible poverty” - Mother Teresa
There is not a person in the universe who hasn’t experienced the pain of being alone or wondered how to cope with loneliness in some way or another. It is a universal condition, that no individual is removed. It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or completely broke, young or elderly, being alone can impact your very being and cause indescribable hurt and suffering. World famous performer, singer, and songwriter Michael Jackson knew that all too well throughout the course of his life.
“People think they know me, but they don’t. Not really. Actually, I am one of the loneliest people on this earth. I cry sometimes because it hurts. It does. To be honest, I guess you could say that it hurts to be me.” To read more…
Like millions of individuals around the world, Michael Jackson never figured out how to cope with loneliness, due to a lack of desire to try.
When asked how they cope with being alone, the following is how some individuals answered;
“Go to the store to buy something.”
“I make sock puppets and then play act with them.”
“Go for a run, for a swim, to a mall, see a concert or go visit the library.”
“Being near people and doing something you like can take your mind off being lonely.”
“Don’t think about loneliness. Discover a new activity, see a movie, watch the news…”
“No choice but to deal with it.”
“Get a dog.”
“Get involved in something worth while.”
“Start playing a musical instrument and ignore the world.”
Is there a pattern how people react? These activities may reduce the pain of being alone for a while, but in a short period of time, loneliness will return, most likely more intense than before. Sadly, “Coping” with being alone is what people think is their only alternative but being alone is not what God intended for us when He put us on this earth.
“Loneliness is the first thing which God saw that was not good.” - John Milton
Why is that? Because He created us for relationships with each other and removed from the context of relationships, our existence loses meaning and purpose. God implanted within our very nature an innate desire to know and be known by others, beginning with Himself. It is our relationship with Him, through His Son, that we can satisfy our deepest desire to be known and loved for who we are. Once we experience that kind of love, we have freedom to love individuals as we are loved by Him.
One of the ways God’s love gives us freedom to love others, is it shows our selfishness within ourselves. Selfishness is one of the biggest barriers to having true relationships. When we pursue a relationship based on what is in it for us, the relationship quickly dissolves once we’ve received all we can and we don’t need what they have to offer. Most likely, you have experienced being on the short end of a relationship with someone like that before and you know the frustration that exists. Yet, if you were to be completely honest, you have been one of those friends a time or two yourself.
I Corinthians 13:4-8 tells how God loves us. When we love others the way He loves us, we will never run out of individuals to love. Being loved by God and loving others is the best cure for loneliness there is. You will never have to simply cope with loneliness again.
