How to Set Better Goals
Are the goals you're setting game enough for your needs? Are you finding that your goals either seem uninspired or impossible to achieve? Do you goals need a little extra "umph!"? Fret no more. It's fairly simple to fall in a bit of a rut when it comes to identifying and setting good goals. Taking a little time now to add a little spice back into your goal setting process can make a world of difference in the types of goals you set and just how achievable they happen to be.
Set Visible Goals
A mental picture of the outcome is one thing but it pales in comparison to a full bright and bold image you can look at day after day of what the successful completion of your goal will look like. Even if you need a computer generated image it's a great way to really bring your goal to life and feed the "hunger" for accomplishing that goal.
Are you looking for the perfect wedding? Your dream home? How about a new sailboat? It's time to start posting pictures of that goal everywhere. Put these pictures on mirrors, in your briefcase, and even on your refrigerator door to get started. But don't stop there. Make it your computer (iPhone, iPod, and/or iPad) wallpaper. Confront yourself with that image at every turn and see just how quickly you accomplish your goal.
Put it in Writing
Write your goals down. Seeing something in writing is much more profound than having an abstract mental image. Don't stop with just writing the goal, the thing you ultimately want, down. Keep going. Write down step by step instructions (and short-term goals) you have that will help you achieve your final goal.
There is a huge school of thought that says it isn't really a goal until you put it in writing. The simple act of writing it down lets the world know just how serious you are about accomplishing the goal. More importantly, it shows you just how committed you are to seeing this goal through.
Give Yourself a Deadline
Deadlines are a great way to put a little fire under your feet and that little extra push required to achieve your goals in a reasonable amount of time. This works really well if you have long and short-term goals that are dedicated to the same end.
Set deadlines for the short-term goals that will help you see definitive progress for achieving your long-term goal. It will give you a little encouragement along the way and help the time fly for you.
It's the little things that often make these biggest differences in life. If you're having trouble setting goals, these small changes in your goal setting philosophy can deliver big results even when your goal is something as ambitious as how to get your ex back.
